Background:
To evaluate the usefulness of a urine tumor marker, Giftec test in cancer screening.
Methods:
The para-hydroxyl phenyl derivatives concentration was measured in random urine samples obtained from 77 hospitalized patients and 325 Mediscreen center visitors.
Results;
The study subjects were divided into three groups according to diagnosis-malignant tumor group, benign disease group and normal group. The prevalence of malignant tumor in study subjects was 7.2%, the sensitivity was 79.3% and the specificity
was
84.2%. False positive rate in benign disease group and normal group were 32.3% and 6.7% respectively. Overall false positive rate was 15.8%. Positive predictive value of Giftec test as a urine tumor marker was 28.0%.
Conclusions:
These results suggest that the Giftec test is helpful for detection of cancer.
